Black Hairstyles – Top Styles for Today’s Black Hair

Today’s Black Hairstyles have increased in beautiful design and diversity thanks to new formulations in black hair products allowing hair to maintain strength, reduce breakage and maintain moisture.

Long, short, and wavy hairstyles have pushed their way to “center stage” with increased functionality and beauty. Hair extensions, coloring, straightening are now made increasingly possible with advanced designs and proper hair care.

What’s new in Black & African American Hairstyles

Women’s hairstyles have become more diverse with longer, wavier cuts becoming most popular in 2008. Thanks to Beyonce and numerous celebrities, smooth, silky and wavy designs are the look. For those of you with shorter hair, don’t despair. The same techniques used for long hair apply equally to short hair as well.

Smoothing and straightening with African American hair products has become less damaging thanks to products containing Jojoba Oil. Mineral oil, used for years to clean and moisturize, is damaging to hair follicles. Jojoba oil has made intense styling more safe without as much risk of breakage or hair fall. Straightening, relaxing, perming and highlighting allow for some beautiful designs and the risk of harmful over-styling is becoming reduced.

For men, the short and tight look of the past few years is subsiding. Short, but more natural styles are coming on the scene with lengths from 1/2 inch to two inches most popular. Moisturizing conditioners, styling aids and periodic use of clarifying shampoos has allowed hair styles to maintain their luster and shine without depleting moisture.

Braids and dreadlocks continue to be the style for longer hair, but fast hair growth or extensions (or growing your hair a very long time) are necessary.

Keys to maintaining healthy Black Hair

Black and African American hair is dense and its molecular cell structure is compact. This leads to dryness. Sebaceous glands at the hair root emit sebum (oil) which is inhibited not only by the thickness of the scalp follicles, but by the often kinky or tightly wound nature of black hair.

Oils are unable to coat the follicle as efficiently therefore dryness, breaking and product build-up are common. Infusing moisture is the key to maintain healthy hair enabling advanced hairstyles.

Moisture can come from within – drinking plenty of fluids, maintaining a healthy diet of raw vegetables and fruits, avoiding moisture depleting styling, or hydration can be topically applied externally with rinse-out and leave-in conditioners and moisture shampoos.

Advances in Black Hair Products

In the past several years, two ingredients have emerged from manufacturers that have helped dramatically improve black hair products. One, LusterPlex, an active ingredient in many hair products, has been shown to greatly enhance the shine, sheen, silkiness and manageability of black hair care. Used primarily in shampoos and conditioners, it was originally formulated to add shine to long, smooth hair.

As often is the case with many products or ingredients, it found uses far more diverse. In studies it has been shown to improve tensile strength, strengthening weak or breaking hair, and greatly increasing shine, while softening – allowing for a new range of hair designs.

Two, Jojoba Oil has now taken its rightful place as a replacement for mineral oil. Often used to aid in styling, cleansing or to add hydration, mineral oil leads to damaged follicles and thinning. Jojoba oil naturally deep cleans and hydrates and leaves hair stronger while effectively removing dirt and product build-up that often lead to flakes and flaking.

Though used as an active ingredient in many hair products to increase cleansing, it is often combined with other “actives” such as Panthenol or Trichogen to soothe the scalp or increase hair growth.

Black hairstyles are beautiful and luxurious – and maintaining proper health and strength has enabled straightening, relaxing and perming to accelerate beautiful styles without damage and breaking.

Whether you’re looking for smooth, straight and highlighted designs, or prefer short and natural, today’s black hairstyles now provide beautiful, celebrity-like selection with black hair care and advanced active ingredients.

Achieving Youthfulness With Your Local South Tampa Hair Salon

December 12th, 2009 hair extensions pro No comments

Most trend-followers look up to celebrities when deciding on a change of hair style. But one of the gravest mistakes one can make  is adopting a certain style that does not fit them. After all, a good look for one person may be disastrous for another, and so, careful thought and consultation with a professional is always a wise move when upgrading your look. The haircuts that prevailed for 2009 have rather taken the road of simplicity. The natural look is a hit for many of Hollywood’s most well-known faces like Kim Kardashian and Beyonce Knowles. These women went all-naturalé by flaunting long,  wavy tresses. They also opted for more subdued colors like chestnut brown or honey blonde hues. If you want to get this look but have short hair, do not despair. Hair extensions provide a convenient alternative for those who are currently growing their hair. However, since hair extensions come in an array of styles in terms of color, thickness, and method of use, it is better to schedule an appointment with your stylist to find out which best suits you. . Th pixie style haircut has also been the rave of this year. It’s hip, fresh, and is the antithesis of the long and flowing hair. Celebrities who went short this year were Eva Longoria, Katie Holmes, and Victoria Beckham. This particular look is simple yet edgy, subtle but very chic. But before cutting it all off, one has to take note that even though it seems like it’s a wash-and-wear hair style, it’s actually harder to manage and maintain. Styling short hair requires more tools and hair products to keep it in place and to give it that versatility.  Styling your short hair can take only five minutes with today’s options on hair tools and products. Fine hair would need the use of a good volumizing agent to give body to your hair. Be careful when buying any kind of hair product because some of the chemicals manufacturers use may be too harsh for fine hair. Paul Mitchell is actually a reliable brand and a good investment for any kind of hair product, be it long, short, fine, coarse, men’s or women’s. You can try other lines but professional stylists will tell you to choose and invest on the more familiar and tested ones so you know what’s being applied on to your hair.If your entire look is your problem, then maybe a nice makeover is what you need. It’s good to pamper yourself once in a while and a little fine tuning on one’s appearance may be the better (and cheaper) alternative for plastic surgery to shave a few years off your tired and aged look. Treat yourself to a nice and relaxing makeover starting with a little hair treatment to revive your hair. Couple this treatment with a more youthful hair color. If you have already colored it before, salons now offer a color correction procedure to adjust the tone of your hair when it has turned dull or is too dark for you. TIGI products have been tested to safely and effectively give your hair just the right amount of dimension and boldness during the color correction process.Tending to your nails is also as important as caring for your hair. After all, our hair and nails are composed of the same thing—keratin. Treating yourself to a good manicure and pedicure allows your makeover to fix the smaller details of your look. A basic manicure is required at least once a week. This is the best way to keep your hands looking clean and healthy. A pedicure does the same with one’s feet. It is also another way of keeping your feet free from corns, ingrown nails, and fungus–which are never attractive. Top off your makeover with a  waxing procedure to get rid of unwanted and unsightly hair on your upper lip, brows, underarms, legs, and bikini area. Shaving your legs and armpits can put a strain on the appearance of your skin. Waxing, when done by a professional, will leave the waxed area smooth and silky. The fine texture on your skin after a good wax can last up to a month. There is also no risk of skin damage and you can be sure to grow finer and softer body hair after regular of visits to your favorite hair salon in South Tampa.

In fact, it has been an age old cleanser and moisturizer for both skin and hair. There are several types of olive oil but the least processed extra virgin olive oil is considered to be the most effective.A half cup of extra virgin olive oil should be heated in the microwave for not more than 20 to 30 seconds, making sure the oil does not get to boiling point. Check if the oil is not too hot and apply it to the scalp and to hair from roots to ends before bedtime. Cover the head with a shower cap and sleep with it on. The oil should be shampooed out upon waking in the morning.Still another all natural oil that is beneficial to dry hair and scalp is flaxseed oil, with its high content of vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It is touted to encourage healthy growth of hair.Capsules of flaxseed oil which can be bought from health food shops should be punctured. The oil should be pinched out and applied to the scalp and roots of the hair, followed by a thorough massage to allow the oil to be absorbed well. Allow the oil to stay for 15 minutes before shampooing it out.Sometimes, improper use of hair color causes dry hair and dry scalp. Color correction at a professional hair salon in South Tampa should not only fix the color of your hair but also its condition. Professional hair treatments from respected brands such as Paul Mitchell and TIGI also correct various hair and scalp problems. You can get more than just Paul Mitchell and TIGI hair treatments at your favored hair salon in South Tampa. Ask your hair salon in South Tampa for their waxing services, as well.Your hair salon in South Tampa need not be confined to offering only services for your hair, though. You can further extend your self pampering by getting a manicure and a pedicure. Now you can truly feel beautiful from head to toe.

Celebrities Bad Hair Day â?? How to Hide a Bad Hair Day

November 30th, 2009 hair extensions pro No comments

There are days when our hair just wants to stay unmanageable, and than suddenly everything goes wrong. Celebrities get these bad hair days to, but the result is more shocking. We expect them to be perfect, yet they prove to be so much like us. Have a look at these few celebrity hair disasters that will surely make you feel better.

The one who’s already a master of bad hair days, is Britney Spears. She appears most of the times in public with hairstyles that just look horrible. She doesn’t brush often enough her extensions, she doesn’t care how she pulls back her hair, and the lake of makeup make it even worse. Since she got the razor cut, and trying to look normal again with extensions, she just doesn’t care how she looks. It’s like she prefers greasy, messy undone hairstyles with bad roots and grown out extensions. To avoid her horrible bad hair days, treat your extensions, give your hair the proper care and make sure it’s brushed often enough, professionally if possible.

Another professional bad hair celebrity would be Amy Whinehouse. She always sports the edgy bouffant beehive hairstyle in the most neglected and messy ways. The beehive hairstyle can be very stylish, elegant and chic. The way Amy wears it, made something else from this hairstyle, it’s not only â??casualâ?, but it’s more like a rehab hairstyle. It looks like the hairstyle of a homeless. But if you provide a proper maintenance, and treat your hair after each styling, this hairstyle can look really stylish.

Lily Allen has some bad hair day collection to. She likes to party quite often, which can seriously damage your hair. Not only because of the external factors, but because of the alcohol you consume during a party. Alcohol makes not only the hair, but the skin get dry to. Avoid this by getting hydrated and drinking plenty of water trough the end of the party and the day after. Also, an updo would help a lot in avoiding the external factors from a party.

Other ways to avoid bad hair days

If you don’t have enough time to a proper hair routine, just pull it back in a ponytail. It is a simple yet trendy hairstyle that can help you out from the bad looks.

You can refresh your hair with dry shampoos and other quick fix hair techniques.

Avoid applying to much hair styling products which will make your hair look dull and greasy.

Keep your hand out of your hair! By touching your hair all the time, will make it greasy and ruin your hairstyle. Specially your bangs.

Braid your hair. It is the most tighter hairstyle that involves all the hair till its ends. Having your hair braided, will hide all the problems you have: dirt, grease, and anything else that would change your beautiful look.

Hydrate. Getting dehydrated makes your hair dry to, which will case even more damages that you would rather skip. So keep drinking plenty of water to assure the hydration your body needs.

And in worse case, use a heat. There are endless stylish hats to choose from, different styles for each personality. It is a perfect accessory to hide your hair’s imperfection. And keep in mind that a healthy hair looks good even if undone. Try to keep a proper hair care routine so you don’t even have to botter hiding disasters.

Other celebrities who have been seen with bad hair days more than a couple of times are:

Cameron Diaz, Renee Zellweger, Tara Reid, Courtney Love, Drew Barrymore, Lindsay Lohan, Kelly Osborne and many more.

How to Choose the Hair Color for Your Haircut and Hair Styles

November 13th, 2009 hair extensions pro No comments

The right hair color adds pizzazz to your new haircut and hair style, whether you choose to look trendy or opt for a classic image. Make sure you know how to make your choice of hair color before you go to your favorite hair salon in South Tampa. This way you will not have to go back for any color correction.Your skin color is one major basis for your choice of hair color., the same way that it determines the color of clothes that suit you. Those of you with pale skin are lucky since almost all hair colors suit you. Those of you with pink-tinted skin are enhanced by clothes in cool tones of fuchsia, bluish red, black, royal blue or pine green. You will also look good with cool toned hair color such as jet black, cool browns, ash brown, burgundy, ash blonde, sandy blonde, champagne and platinum. Please avoid hair color in golden blonde as well as all shades of red. Those of you with yellow-tinted skin are enhanced by clothes in neutral tones of red, purple, periwinkle, teal and charcoal grey. You will look good in neutral toned hair color, too, such as deep red, mahogany, chocolate brown, sandy blonde and beige blonde. You should, on the other hand, avoid gold, yellow and orange tints. Those of you with olive skin are enhanced by clothes in warm tones of red, orange, golden yellow, olive green or rust. Likewise, you will look good in dark hair color as well as warm golden brown, warm golden blonde, warm strawberry blonde, warm red and auburn. You will know that you have the right hair color that suits your skin tone best if it gives your face a glow and enables you to wear less makeup. You should also take into consideration how much time you will need for root touch ups. More drastic color changes need touch ups more often. If you’ve seen a color you like in a magazine, bring the clipping to show your professional colorist at your favorite hair salon in South Tampa. He or she will tell you if it suits you and how close you can get it given your natural hair color. Ask for a test on some strands of hair snipped from your nape so that you can see a sample of the final outcome. You should also be prepared to face people’s common impressions about people with certain hair colors. People with blonde hair are perceived to be youthful, energetic, bubbly and sexy. On the other hand, they are also perceived to be glamorous and high maintenance. The negative stereotype is the dumb blonde.People with naturally red hair are a minority. Women with red hair are perceived to be strong, independent and temperamental. The negative stereotype is the femme fatale.Brunettes or people with brown hair are perceived to be serious, sophisticated, intelligent, competent and stable. The negative stereotype is bland, boring and dull. Hair color can be damaging to your hair, though. Make sure you get the right hair treatment to prevent this. Deep conditioning is very important, done at least once a week. Despite this, blowdrying should still be kept to a minimum, and should certainly not be done daily. Also keep in mind that the more you lighten your hair, the more fragile it becomes and the more conditioning you will need.Aside from hair treatments, take care of your hair by using only reliable hair products from trustworthy brands like TIGI and Paul Mitchell. If you’re not ready to make a permanent commitment to hair color or even just highlights, you can perhaps fake some highlights with the use of hair extensions in the right color.Of course, your beauty regimen does not stop at your haircut, hair style, hair color and hair treatment. Complete your look with waxing, a manicure and a pedicure, too. Voila, an even more beautiful you!

Finding the Right Hair Salon in South Tampa

November 11th, 2009 hair extensions pro No comments

Have you had problems finding the right hair salon in South Tampa? Make sure that the salon you choose gives a precision haircut with the latest downtown hair styles, as well as professional color treatments. If you use extensions, or you want to experiment with them, you should ask about the salon’s expertise in this area, as well.

I personally want to go to just one place to have everything done, and this includes a manicure and a pedicure and, if possible, waxing services.

I found a new salon that offers all these and more. Salon Monaco is not just a hair salon in South Tampa, but is a spa, as well, offering various esthetician services.

If you simply need a haircut with a shampoo and a blow dry, you can be in and out quick. There are various hair styles to choose from, for short hair, medium length hair or long hair. You can bring your boyfriend or husband, too, since they also do men’s haircuts. If you happen to be a mom, you’ll be happy to know that they can do children’s haircuts, also with a blow dry.

For your hair color needs, they do permanent and semi-permanent coloring. They can do full color in one tone, retouch, retouch with partial highlights or retouch with refreshing of ends. Highlighting can be full, partial or in slices, with one, two or three tones. This can be followed by a separate conditioning treatment.

If you want to have your hair straightened, the non-chemical Keratin Complex Hair therapy eliminates curl and frizz, leaving only smooth, shiny and healthy hair. If, on the other hand, you long for bouncy curls, Salon Monaco can give you permanent waves. For less permanent changes, they can give you hair extensions, instead.

When that special occasion arises – a prom, wedding or formal function – ask for an elegant updo from the salon’s hair stylists. This requires an appointment and consultation, though.

Rest assured that only the best hair care, color and styling products are used for all your hair needs. These include Paul Mitchell hair products and TIGI. Your new look will definitely go well with your perfect manicure and pedicure.

Waxing is one of the salon’s many spa services. You can opt for full face waxing or just have your brows, chin or upper lip done. For the body, you can have your underarms, arms, legs, back, chest, belly or bikini area waxed.

Other spa services include skin treatments and facials. You can even have a “Backcial” or the same facial treatment on your back, with deep cleansing, exfoliation, massage and moisturizing. This eliminates “bacne” or acne on the back, and is quite a treat considering how difficult it is to reach your own back.

Dermalplaning is one of the basic skin treatments you can choose, in which a straight edge blade is used painlessly to exfoliate dry and dead skin cells on the face. This treatment not only rejuvenates environmentally damaged skin leaving it soft and smooth, but also eliminates fine facial hair.

The Skin Glow Treatment is Dermalplaning with the added benefit of an enzyme or natural acid application. This refines and nourishes all skin types.

Other facials include the Gentle Calming Facial, Oxygen Facial, Discoloration Facial and the Signature Facial which even includes a very thorough and relaxing hand, arm and foot massage.

There are also several peels available, namely, the Zesty Orange Peel, Mango Peel and Vitamin A Peel. Peels use natural exfoliating granules from organic sources in an emollient base.

Salon Monaco is located at 2907 W. Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, FL, inside Monaco Boutique.

Hair Color Correction at Home or at a Hair Salon in South Tampa

November 10th, 2009 hair extensions pro No comments

Sometimes getting the right haircut with a variety of options in hair styles, even with extensions, is just not enough. The right hair color is needed to give it the perfect finishing touch. There are also times, however, when hair color goes wrong. This often happens when hair color treatment is self applied at home or at a disreputable hair salon in South Tampa. Thankfully, hair color correction is still possible. Most professionals warn against using color removers available in drugstores as these can be too strong and may damage your hair unless applied by professional hair specialists. For those who have applied color that turns out too dark, they recommend waiting a few days for the color to naturally lighten after several shampoos. Some people advice using equal amounts of baking soda and dandruff shampoo and leaving the mixture on the hair for ten minutes. This is then rinsed out with a mixture of one thirds baking soda to two thirds hot water. Doing this for two to three times is supposed to quickly fade unwanted hair color. If your hair color turns out to be too red, you can do the abovementioned steps then follow it up by re-coloring using a light ash blonde. It is easier to correct hair color that is too light. You can apply a darker semi-permanent color over it. Take note, however, that you have previously bleached your hair and it is in a very vulnerable state, possibly heavily damaged. Applying even a gentle semi-permanent color over it may still be quite harsh. It would be much better to try more natural and mild alternatives for correcting over-bleached hair. You can darken it using a thick paste made of one half cup of cocoa mixed with plain yoghurt. After your regular shampoo, apply this to your hair and let it stay for five minutes before rinsing. Some darkening may already be seen after one application. Three applications will bring more dramatic results. An alternative to cocoa would be coffee or black tea. Be careful in the application, though, because all three substances can stain clothing permanently. For dull color, simply applying silicone products or spray on shine while styling may do the trick. Also use shine enhancing shampoo and conditioner for colored hair.It is still best to go to a reputable hair salon in South Tampa for your hair color correction. Be prepared for the fact that sometimes the color correction cannot be accomplished with just one visit, especially with severely damaged hair. Color correction will have to be done along with damage control. In some cases, fortunately, a simple application of a colorless gloss over dull hair color already works wonders. In other cases, weaving in highlights and lowlights solves the problem. If your hair is too damaged, though, it may not be able to absorb additional color even for correction. Perhaps your stylist can try to weave in hair extensions of a complementary to tone down your look. You will then just have to patiently wait while the damaged hair grows out and new healthier hair grows in.It would be even better to go straight to a reputable hair salon in South Tampa to get your hair color right in the first place. You can be sure to also get the best haircut with the widest selection of trendy and classic hair styles using only top of the line hair treatment products such as Paul Mitchell and TIGI. As a bonus for yourself, you may as well get a waxing and your manicure and pedicure for a complete makeover.

One of the latest hair trends is the hair extension technique.  Have you ever wondered how celebrities are able to change thier hairstyles, like they change thier clothes?   Or for example, ever notice how some women go from a short auburn, razored bob, to long layered brunette ringlets  two weeks later.

Hair extensions are added wefts or individually bonded hair strands to your natural coif, to create length, fullness, color, or hairstyle of choice.  If done properly this technique looks extremely natural.  You can transform your short mid-length, single colored hairstyle, to a sleek long-layered mane with caramel highlights.  I know sounds exciting!

With a professional licensed stylist, this can happen.  Hair extensions allow you style and versatility.  The possibilities are endless.  This can even be an option for people you don’t wish to chemically process their hair with a color application or straightening method.  Some individuals with mild cases of alopecia may even be a candidate for one of the hair extension methods.

There are several different methods of hair extensions.  A consultation with a professional is highly recommended to conclude the right technique for you.  A few techniques to mention are hair fusion, sew in extension, bonded extension, cap extension, hair clip ons, & many more!

As far as the hair quality of the hair extension, there is a wide range which also effects the cost of the hair that needs to be purchased.  Hair extensions have a variety of hair textures as well to suit everyone.  Whether you want a rock and roll look, or conservative business hairstyle, this is a technique to be considered.  The instant transformation is amazing and is performed throughout the world!
